EXTRACTION SYSTEM CLEANING / GREASE DUCT
UK Law states that your Grease Extraction System is cleaned annually by a professional duct cleaning company. Failure to do so may lead to prosecution by a fire officer and invalidate your insurance in the case of a fire. GREASE EXTRACTION SYSTEM
Regardless of how efficient the filters are in your canopy, over time a build up of grease will occur unless regular cleaning is carried out. The grease deposits will form a solid carbon layer on the internal surfaces of the canopy, plenum, ductwork & fan motor.
If these areas are not cleaned this will have an adverse effect on the efficiency of the system and can also be a breeding ground for bacteria and an easily accessible food source for undesirable insects.
Extraction systems that are not regularly cleaned also pose a significant fire risk The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 demands that building owners carry out full fire risk assessments or appoint a manager within the workplace to identify and action all potential fire risks.
The deep cleaning of the extraction system removes one of the most common causes of fires in commercial kitchens, it is also now becoming a more common occurance that insurance companies are refusing to pay out if there is no evidence of cleaning to the system.
You can rest assured that after the deep clean, we will provide you with a detailed post clean report which will contain wet film thickness test results, photographic evidence, and any advisory notes, this certificate will prove that you have done everything within your control to reduce the risk of fire and will satisfy EHO’s, Fire Officers & Insurance Companies.
All works will be carried out in conjunction with HVCA tr19 Guidelines and as a guide the table below highlights the frequency of cleaning which is recommended.
LIGHT USE 2 – 6 HOURS PER DAY ANNUALLY
MODERATE USE 6 – 12 HOURS PER DAY BI-ANNUALLY
HEAVY USE 12 – 16 HOURS PER DAY QUARTERLY

The insurer’s loss prevention council suggest that a minimum of annual cleaning of entire systems by specialists is carried out, the exact frequency to be determined by reasoned risk assessment.

The grease extraction ducting is cleaned every 6 months.

All extraction hood canopies, filters and grease traps are cleaned at least once every seven days.
All extraction ducts are cleaned at least once every twelve months by a specialist contractor.”
